The koala(phascolarctus cinereus) is a typical animal herbivorous marsupial from australia . and the only extant representive of the family Phascolarctidae. The koala is found in coastal area of the mainland's eastern and southern regions, inhabiting Queensland,New south wales, Victoria and South australia.
The koala has a body length of 60-85 cm and weights 4-15 kg. Pelage colour ranges from silver grey to chocolate brown. Koala from the northern populations are typically smaller and lighter in colour than their counterparts further south, It is possible that thesee populations are separate subspecies, but this disputed.
The koala is one of only a few mammals that has fingerprints. Koala fingerprints are very similar to human fingrerprints, and even under a microscope, it is very difficult to distinguish betwen them. Koala live on eucalyptus leaves. Eucalyptus leaaves contain low amounts of protein,undigested subtances in high leaves, and contain phenolic and terpene compounds that are toxic to other species.
